Uhhh, I LOVE the T-Pain app on my phone. It’s fun to use when you’re stuck somewhere boring like the DMV. I see no harm in Auto-tune and I’m not opposed to it, but as a texture I haven’t found a place for it in my own work. I’m really interested right now in finding ways to distort or adjust the voice by natural technique (like adjusting breathing slightly to create a jagged mineral/metallic tone). I’ve kind of let the pedals/FX take a backseat. I don’t think the object of singing is to sound perfect. It is a tool of expression. I’m not all that interested in sounding better but I am interested in the strength, range and athleticism you might apply to any other instrument applied to the voice.
